Accountability- Eh??

You hear and read a lot from coaches about being able to hold you to account, or be held accountable- but what does that even mean?

Put simply, it really means challenging someone to do something or challenging them over not doing something.
Your boss should do this at work. You probably do with this your children, even your partner at times without even realising.
To be accountable to yourself is challenging, why? Well..............
You con yourself into NOT thinking about what you’re trying to achieve- i.e. putting off week after week the healthier eating or ‘I’ll start tomorrow’
You decide when you’re done i.e. I’ve only done 10 minutes of exercise, I’ll do more tomorrow’ but don’t follow it through.
You ‘forget’ things i.e. I forgot about the chocolate orange and the take-away when wondering why inches aren’t dropping.
What’s happening here is you are accepting this as the norm- and you will just tootle through life never making real long-term changes.
This is why having a coach for many is key.
It is possible to hold yourself accountable without a coach, its harder and if you recognise any of the statements above then it’s even harder.
So how do you do it?
TRACK YOUR FOOD, TRACK YOUR HABITS. EVERY DAY. CONSISTENTLY
BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF. CONSISTENTLY
PUT THE WORK IN. CONSISTENTLY
ASK YOURSELF THE HARD HARD QUESTIONS I.E WHY DID YOU FEEL THE NEED TO MUNCH THAT FULL CHOCOLATE ORANGE EMMA? IS THAT GETTING YOU TO WHERE YOU WANT TO BE? WHY DIDN’T YOU DO YOUR WORKOUT TODAY EMMA- IS THERE SOMETHING STOPPING YOU OR ARE YOU BEING LAZY?
GET STUCK IN- PUT THE WORK IN- WHEN IT GETS TOUGH- DIG DEEPER. CONSISTENTLY
With a coach you get asked these questions, and a gazillion others to get you on your journey - you get asked to provide information, answer hard questions, set goals but here’s the crux- you must put in the work and the effort regardless of who you deal with! Think about it, and start answering those hard questions.
